First Healthy Streets a Success

On Sunday, May 3rd, 2015 Ames citizens were able to experience the first ever Healthy Streets event in Downtown Ames. The sunshine and warm temperatures brought over 400 people to Main Street for the event. Healthy Streets provided a variety of activities for people of all ages. Zumba, yoga, big wheel races, bike safety checks, chair massages, and hula hooping were just a few of the activities available. Kids could participate in a scavenger hunt for prizes and there were two walks that took place during the afternoon. Local physicians and Iowa State University athletes participated in the walks and encouraged people to join in. Cy arrived later in the afternoon as the tae kwon do and tap dancing demos began.

Healthy Streets was well accepted by the community and local businesses. Efforts to plan a second event are currently underway.
